He came from nowhere and changed everything. At least, if by 'nowhere' you mean the small northern village of Vuollerim and by 'everything' you mean the direction of Swedish-language pop music. Jakob Hellman hit the big time in 1989 with the release of his debut album "... och stora havet". Songs like "Vara vänner" and "Hon har ett sätt" introduced a new way of writing songs in Swedish, with their wordy lyrics and an expression consisting of equal parts naivety and melancholy.

With "... och stora havet", Jakob Hellman both rewrote the rules of Swedish pop and wrote himself into the history books. Kent, Håkan Hellström and Veronica Maggio are all artists who are hard to imagine without the doors Jakob Hellman's debut album opened. The album is listed over and over again as one of the best ever when the country's music history is summarised.

But after his big breakthrough, he disappeared almost as quickly as he appeared. The myths surrounding Jakob Hellman and where he went were and remain many. Then, 30 years after his debut, he came back with the sequel "Äntligen borta" - an album at least as strong as the one we got in the late 80s. Followed by acclaimed tours and appearances on "Så mycket bättre", he has constantly proved that he is a formidable live performer and more than just nostalgia.

In 2025, the journey continues with their third album "Slutet gott" and a new extensive Sweden tour. Friend Mattias Alkberg says "Jakob Hellman is still the saviour and innovator of Swedish pop" and we can only agree.
