Level 42 was formed in 1979 by Mark King, Phil Gould, Boon Gould and Mike Lindup and debuted a couple of years later with their self-titled album. The group's early years were characterised as a jazz-funk band, but eventually it moved more towards pop-rock. In 1985, the group hit the big time with 'Something About You', which sold over five million copies worldwide. They went on to achieve great success in the 80s and 90s with hits such as 'Something About You', 'Lessons in Love' and 'Running in the Family'.
In the late 1980s, the Gould brothers left the group and since then the members have fluctuated. Today, seven members carry the music forward and the band continues to tour the world with great success.
