LIVE AT THE CAFÉ: Efia Abu - Roots reggae & soul in Scanian
The atmosphere is filled with a combination of deep, earthy roots and heavenly praise when Efia invites you to an honest encounter with what exists beyond time and space. Straightforward messages about life's innermost principles are clothed in playful melodies, soft harmonies and echoing backbeats.
Drawing inspiration from her own life, Efia turns minus into plus, creating a kind of magical realism that connects the spiritual and the physical. At the centre is the message of love and the call to dare to be our unique authentic selves and spread our light in the world.
Efia is a Malmö-based singer and songwriter with roots in northern Skåne and Ghana. Together with her colleague Isak Strand on guitar, she offers honest and soulful roots reggae and soul in Scanian.
Efia Abu plays her music in various configurations, from duo to 10-piece band. In 2023 she released her debut album "Kärlek & Verkan" together with Drömbandet, and in 2025 they will release their second album. In 2024, Efia was awarded the STIM scholarship, Hässleholm municipality's cultural scholarship, and began her project "Journey to Roots", a project about music, culture and identity.
