Wisetalks: Karin Adelsköld

Humour as a tool when everything else falls apart. With humour, research and laughter exercises, Karin Adelsköld shows how we can get up when life falls apart and that we can even dare to laugh at our most difficult experiences. Laughter can be the difference between falling down and getting up again. It eases anxiety, reduces stress and helps us cope with everything from everyday annoyances to life's biggest crises. But how do we find the humour when life feels at its darkest?

In the lecture "Crash. Laugh. Repeat." Karin Adelsköld, journalist, stand-up comedian and author, offers a unique combination of science, humour and her own experiences from both the spotlight of the stage and the tougher chapters of life. With self-distance, sharpness and a large portion of warmth, she shows how humour can be a tool for regaining balance, perspective and joy in life.

For almost 15 years, Karin has immersed herself in humour research, lived through exhaustion, mental illness and addiction. She has written books, most recently about her alcohol addiction in the book "Det är tungt nu" (Bonniers 2025). In her most personal book to date, Karin Adelsköld tells honestly, vulnerably and with black humour about the years when alcohol took over, in the middle of a life that on the surface seemed to shine. A poignant story of love, codependency, success and decline. But also about hope, courage and the road to a sober life where laughter became a way out.

The audience gets:
- Scientific facts on why laughter is so powerful for the brain and body.
- Concrete tips on how to use humour in everyday life, at work and in relationships.
- Personal stories, laughter exercises and a reminder that we are never alone in our crashes.

This is more than a lecture, it is an experience that touches, inspires and entertains. A journey from the bottom to the top, where laughter is not just an escape, but a key to change and joy. Karin reminds us that we can't avoid life's crashes but that we can choose how we face them. And sometimes the way forward starts just like this: a crash, a laugh and repeat.
