The textile industry is in the midst of a transition, but consumption of textiles made from primary raw materials remains high. Several new pieces of legislation are due to come into force, and by 2028 a producer responsibility scheme for textiles is to be in place. The aim of producer responsibility is to establish a functioning system for collection, reuse and recycling, so that more material is kept in circulation and less is sent for incineration.
During a breakfast meeting, we will discuss and analyse how the new producer responsibility scheme will affect the textile value chain and these stakeholders. The textile ecosystem comprising second-hand businesses, designers, remake operators and other circular economy enterprises that demand reused textiles as raw materials for new products and services is growing. In Malmö, where fashion and textiles form a significant part of the creative industries, this trend is becoming increasingly evident.
