Second-hand shopping allows you to create your own unique style and dare to try new expressions.
How did your business start?
Busfrö was founded by Stina Qubti, then as a small shop in Västervik as a pure children's concept. Today there are 14 Busfrö stores throughout Sweden and the range has grown to include women's, men's, children's and interior design.
How do you work with sustainability in practice?
The only thing we actually throw away is paper bags. And soon, we won't even throw away the paper bags, they will be recycled instead. Anything else, garment or object, that is handed in will have a new life. We carefully go through everything that comes in, make sure it is whole, clean and freshly washed, and pick out what we think will be sold in the store. What doesn't meet our criteria is sent on to other organisations or recycled in some other way. At Busfrö, we want as much as possible to be reused, so we set relatively low prices on the goods
We have clear drop-off and sorting procedures: every two months we open for drop-off, accepting spring and summer clothes in the first half of the year and autumn and winter clothes in the second half. Once the items arrive in store, they have 60 days to be sold before being donated. We also seasonally save some of the goods that are not sold in the right season, but also goods that have arrived in the wrong seasonal consignment. In this way, we ensure that garments get the maximum chance to circulate at the right time of year and that as little as possible is thrown away.
What does being part of the City mean to you?
It means everything. We want to be part of a community and not stand alone. Being in the centre of the city, having colleagues and neighbours around, creates a great sense of belonging. It's so nice to be able to walk across the street or to the shop down the road and just say hello or ask about small things.
How do you see customer behaviour changing?
Younger guys in particular have found their way here, which we think is fantastic. They dare and want to express their different style. It's great to see! We have also seen an increase among younger girls, but it is especially noticeable that more young guys are shopping second hand.
Many people return their clothes, get money in their account with us and realise they can buy something else for free. That feeling is very nice to see in customers.
What do you think distinguishes second hand from new fashion?
These are two completely different worlds. When you shop second hand, you can create your own unique style and dare to try different expressions. With new fashion, there is often a ready-made template, which can make the garments not feel like "you".
With us you can experiment with styles, one day business chic, the next bohemian. The possibilities are much greater when you shop second hand.
What inspires you in your work?
The most inspiring thing is when we find unique gems in the bags during the sorting process, and then get to hang them up in the store. Even better is when we stand at the checkout and see customers buying garments that make them as happy as we were when we first saw them.
We hope that our customers feel the same joy as we do. That they have made a bargain and found something that is truly "them"
If someone has never shopped second-hand, what would you say to them?
Ask for help or focus on one thing. Need a dress for summer parties? Start with that. Otherwise it can easily become overwhelming at first. Once you get started, it's usually hard to stop.
Busfrö is not just children's second-hand, we have men's, women's, children's and interior design. There is something for everyone, and every garment has a story waiting to be told.
