The Nutcracker is one of the most popular ballets in over a century and Tchaikovsky's wonderful music brings us a Christmas wonderland. Many ballet companies around the world organise the famous ballet every year during the winter months and children and adults alike look forward to experiencing a magical performance of The Nutcracker during the Christmas season.

The first performance of the ballet was held on 18 December 1892 at the Imperial Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia. The Nutcracker Ballet is based on Alexander Dumas' version of the story 'The Nutcracker and the Mouse King' by E.T.A. Hoffmann. Tchaikovsky's musical production premiered on 18 December 1892 in St. Petersburg, choreographed by Lev Ivanov, and delighted children and adults alike.
